MD - Rental Car Charges Against Dwek Dropped But Will Remain in Custody

Solomon Dwek

Baltimore, MD - Authorities have dropped charges filed against a star witness in the biggest corruption sting in New Jersey history.

But Solomon Dwek will remain in custody because a federal judge ruled he violated his cooperation agreement with federal prosecutors by lying to his FBI handlers.

Dwek was arrested in May after he allegedly failed to return a rental car. But he claimed the incident was a misunderstanding.

Mark Cheshire, a spokesman the State’s Attorney office in Baltimore City, told the Star-Ledger of Newark that a judge dismissed the charges Thursday because the car has been returned and the rental charges were paid.

Dwek became a federal cooperating witness after being arrested in a $50 million bank fraud. He portrayed a crooked developer who offered bribes to elected officials and others.
