Autopsy: Leiby Kletzky Drugged, Smothered
A Brooklyn grand jury on Wednesday indicted Levi Aron, 35, for the murder of Leiby Kletzky, 8, the Brooklyn D.A. announced. Kletzky was drugged with a combination of pills and smothered, according to the medical examiner, who classified the death as homicide.
A statement by the medical exainer's office said the cause of death was, "Intoxication by the combined effects of cyclobenzaprine (muscle relaxant), quetiapine (antipsychotic), hydrocodone (pain medication), and acetaminophen (Tylenol) followed by smothering."
The boy's dismembered body was found in two locations in Brooklyn last week including a house in the Kensington neighborhood.
Aron lived in that house. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and kidnapping.
District Attorney Charles Hynes said that Aron is accused of luring Kletzky to his home last week after the little boy got lost while walking home from a Brooklyn day camp. Hynes alleges that Aron drugged the boy and then smothered him with a towel before dismembering him.
Aron is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, and one count of second-degree kidnapping. If convicted, he faces a maximum of life in prison without parole.
A psychiatric exam of the accused killer is near completion at Bellevue Hospital. If Aron is found mentally competent to stand trial, it means he at least understands what is going on in his case in court.
His lawyers say that they will probably seek an insanity defense for him due to the horrific crime he is charged with and that Aron allegedly hears voices and hallucinates.
Kletzky got lost as he walked to meet his mother July 11 following day camp. Investigators say he stopped to ask Aron for directions when he was kidnapped. His dismembered body was discovered last Wednesday.
