Khloe Kardashian joined her husband Lamar to run errands in the city yesterday. She tweeted a sympathetic message after the crash
A 15-year-old boy has died of severe head injuries following a collision with a chauffeur-driven SUV carrying basketball star Lamar Odom.
The boy was rushed to hospital and underwent emergency surgery in New York City, but he died the next day.
Odom, who was in the city to attend his cousin's funeral, was left 'devastated' by the tragedy, and witnesses saw him crying at the scene.
He was sitting in the back seat when the accident happened on Thursday, in his old neighbourhood of Jamaica, Queens.
His chauffeur-driven vehicle collided with a motorcyclist, and the bike then slammed into the 15-year-old pedestrian.
Both were taken to Elmshurst Hospital with serious injuries.
The boy died on Friday morning, and his family held a funeral service on Sunday, TMZ reports.
His name has not been released.
The motorcyclist had only minor injuries, including 'road rash' and a fractured ankle. He was later released from hospital, a spokesman said.
Initial reports suggested the Los Angeles Lakers star's wife, Khloe Kardashian, was also in the car.
But her publicist, Jill Fritzo, later confirmed Miss Kardashian was not with her husband at the time
She told the New York Post: 'Khloe wasn't in the car [and] Lamar was in the back seat.'
Odom, 31, had hired a car service while he was in the city, and was returning from a trip to a barber shop when the accident happened.
The reality TV star was uninjured, but he looked grim as he headed out into the city yesterday.
A source close to Odom said he was 'shaken up' and 'devastated' by the accident.
Yesterday he was spotted out in New York with Miss Kardashian, and responded to wellwishers by tweeting: 'Thank you for your support and prayers!
Late last night he tweeted: 'My thoughts and prayers are with the young boy's family.
As she ran errands with her husband in the city yesterday, Miss Kardashian looked equally sombre in a black trouser suit and black heels.
She seemed to offer her sympathy to the boy's family in the aftermath of the accident on her Twitter page.
'My heart/soul goes out 2every1 in pain from any suffering,' she wrote. 'Pray 4all of the angels surrounding us constantly. May our spirits stay strong.'
This was followed by several choice quotations from the Bible, after seemingly getting angry at some comments directed at her on the social networking site.
'Stop judging other people's lives that u know NOTHING about!' she wrote.
'My husband&I r in NY 4a funeral 4 his fam. Senseless violence is disgusting!!
She added that the comments were making her 'think twice about social media.'
'A family member of his (Lamar) was killed and some of the comments you are saying due to the fact I am off twitter today are disgusting.'
