Child Sexual Abuse At A Bobover Camp

NY State police talking to camp officials

NY State Police are investigating whether a kosher- food deliveryman snuck into bunks at an upstate summer camp for seventh- and eighth-grade Orthodox Jewish boys from Brooklyn and sexually molested several of them.

The shocking intrusion occurred in the early hours Wednesday at Camp Shalva in South Fallsburg, sources said.

Details came out on a Yiddish chat site when someone described a “terrifying incident,” in which a deliveryman dropped off food in the pre-dawn darkness, then strolled through the camp.

He “found the rooms for the just-Bar Mitzvahed, went in and did what his heart desired” with several boys in their beds, the blog said.

When the boys complained in the morning, a supervisor checked security video, which showed an intruder walking in and out of the sleeping quarters, sources reported. But the boys were told to hold off on telling their parents.

Sources said the suspect is a truck driver employed by a kosher-food company and may be a registered sex offender.

Stephen Lungen, a criminal-defense lawyer and former Sullivan County prosecutor, told The Post he was contacted around 3 p.m. Thursday by frantic camp administrators, who asked what to do about the allegations.

“They were very upset and concerned about how to deal with it,” Lungen said, adding that he put them in touch with the DA and State Police.

Ben Hirsch, director of Survivors for Justice, a Brooklyn-based advocacy group for sex-abuse victims, said he was contacted about the allegations about 12:30 p.m. Thursday and immediately called the state Office of Children and Family Services, which referred the case to State Police.

Camp representatives could not be reached.
