Wife, children of gunned down Yemenite teacher make aliyah

The Nahari family reunited

Lousia Nahari, whose husband Moshe was killed in 2008 by radical Islamist, moves to Israel with four of her kids; reunites with five other children who made aliya after murder

Lousia Nahari, wife of the late Moshe Yaish-Nahari, who was shot to death in Raida, Yemen in December 2008, has made aliyah with the aid of the Jewish Agency together with her four children.

Lousia arrived at Ben-Gurion Airport Sunday morning and reunited with five of her other children, who had already made aliyah three and-a-half years ago. The family will now be settled in an absorption center in southern Israel.

"It was a very emotional reunion, there was a lot of excitement at the airport's arrivals hall. The family members were teary eyed and could not stop hugging, and even the other passengers couldn't hold back their tears," said Ariel Di-Porto, director of the Jewish Agency for Israel's Middle East Aliyah Desk.

Di-Porto noted that Lousia arrived to Israel "extremely thin and seems like she has been going through some rough times. She couldn’t stop crying and said that it was a day of joy."

Explaining why it took Nahari so long to make Aliyah, Di-Porto said that she had to stay in Yemen in order to serve as a witness in her husband's killer's trial.

Chairman of The Jewish Agency Natan Sharansky said that "Lousia's aliyah and her emotional reunion with her children is first and foremost closing a personal circle, but also closing a Zionist one."

Moshe, who worked as a Hebrew teacher and was the brother of a prominent rabbi in Yemen was shot to death by former pilot for the Yemenite army because he refused to convert to Islam.

Eyewitnesses told said the killer, Abed el-Aziz el-Abadi, had confronted Nahari at the market in Raida, called out to him "Jew, accept the message of Islam" and then proceeded to open fire with a Kalashnikov assault rifle. Nahari was struck by five bullets.
