Tragedy In Williamsburg: Tragic Petira Of R’ Meilech Weiss Z”L

Police examine the shattered windshield of a car that fatally struck R’ Elimilech Wiess, 62, in Williamsburg last night

A Brooklyn man was killed yesterday crossing the street, police said.

R’ Elimilech Wiess, 62, was crossing the intersection of Flushing Avenue and Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg when a 1996 Mitsubishi sedan smashed him into him about 8:50 p.m., authorities said.

Hatzolah volunteers rushed Weiss to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The 21-year-old driver stayed on the scene, and no criminality is suspected, cops said.

"He was bleeding everywhere and his whole face was white," said Danny Masri, 23, who called 911. "It was horrible. He was a quiet, good guy.

The Levaya details were not confirmed, but sources state it is scheduled for Sunday morning.

  2. Drivers in Brooklyn can be pretty stupid. Have been honked at and threatened multiple times when in crosswalk with walk light on. But we don't know what happened here. Flushing is not your typical street with crossings fewer in between. Could be this poor guy just took a chance to dart so that's not the fault of the driver. I would be curious if anyone knows if this driver--if innocent--can be still sued in civil court?

  5. BDE - he wasn't Crossing the Street, he was standing by the corner, and the car came fast and hit him.
