Joshua Rubin, 30, died of a gunshot wound on Nov. 1.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Authorities have identified the burned body of a New York man found shot to death along a rural eastern Pennsylvania road last month.

Lehigh County officials said the body found Nov. 1 in South Whitehall Township was that of 30-year-old Joshua Rubin A”H of Brooklyn, N.Y. A family member had reported him missing the night before.

Coroner Scott Grim said Wednesday that Rubin was identified through DNA testing. He died of a gunshot wound to the body, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Grim and District Attorney James Martin say Rubin was the proprietor of the Whisk Café in Brooklyn. Police are asking anyone with information about the case to come forward.

A Pennsylvania police official said no arrests have been made.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force (610) 437-5252.

NEW YORK - Police in New York and Pennsylvania are now facing a murder mystery after a positive ID was made on a man from Brooklyn missing since Halloween.

The body of Joshua James Rubin was found November 1st but wasn't identified until Wednesday night.

He had been shot and his body set on fire.

Rubin had owned a café in Brooklyn.

His body was found in South Whitehall Township.

A lone candle burns in front of the shuttered Whisk Cafe, the bakery Joshua Rubin ran.

It was clearly not a successful business, the paperwork taped to the security gate indicates he had never paid a single month's rent and owed the landlord $10,000.

Given how he died, he may have owed someone else a lot more than that.

30-year-old Joshua James Rubin was from Providence, Rhode Island and most of his family is still there.

He lived in a building in Brooklyn, but no one Eyewitness News found there knew him.

On October 31st, just two months after his bakery opened, his sister reported him missing and the following day his body was found in a field near Allentown with no identification.

It took this long to figure out who he was.

Now, the investigation begins.

  1. Looking at a map, I'm guessing that the killer(s) lives in or near Allentown, PA, on the notoriously drug- and gang-infested Rt. 222 corridor. A few days after he was reported missing and after PA cops had already found a body, Josh Rubin's credit card was used at the Woodbury Common Shopping Outlets in NYS. Looks like an easy shot up the Thruway and an effort to throw off LE into thinking the crime and criminals were all in New York. Her's hoping PA LE get what they need to catch the murderer.

  2. I don't think they live in that area. They're from NY with knowledge of the area. It was a good place to dump a body. The two morons that used his cards were caught on camera. They weren't smart enough to throw anyone off. My theory is he got some merch on credit, tried to move it and got ripped off and capped. Low level street thugs...any hint of some reward $ or pressure on (as yet unknown) associates will produce arrests.

  3. I now agree about where they live. They probably just know the area, which has a very serious drug problem. Maybe they're the big machers from NYC who know thte area because they bring drugs there.

BTW, a WSJ online article recently mentioned that that Rubin's credit card was also used in a NYC cab. No one's pursuing that in the press, but it would be good to know the times of all uses of the cards.
