'Happy Chanukah y'all!' Zooey Deschanel lights a candle to celebrate Jewish festival

She may have been raised a Roman Catholic, but Zooey Deschanel joined in the Hanukkah celebrations on Sunday.

The 32-year-old actress posted a photograph of herself holding a flame to a branch of a menorah, a traditional nine branch candle holder used to celebrate the Jewish festival of lights.

'Happy Chanukah y'all,' she wrote alongside the photograph, which showed her sporting a chic red coat teamed with black tights and a black clutch bag.

Zooey was celebrating with her Jewish friend Sophia Rossi with whom who she set up girly website Hello Giggles.

The New Girl actress clearly enjoys a celebration - she has also recently released a Christmas covers album entitled A Very She and Him Christmas, with her musical collaborator M Ward.

The record features 12 holiday classics such as I'll Be Home for Christmas, Silver Bells and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

Zooey was taking a break from filming her hit comedy New Girl in which she plays quirky roommate Jess Day.

The star is currently dating screenwriter Jamie Linden after splitting from Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard in December 2011 after two years of marriage.

The Elf actress and Linden, who wrote scripts for the films 10 Years, Dear John and We Are Marshall, went public with their relationship in June at a Magic Mike afterparty.

'Jamie's a really nice guy,' a source told Us Weekly. 'He's funny, and a little geeky. . . he's into her!'
