Police arrest cyberstalker obsessed with Georgina Bloomberg, Mayor Bloomberg's daughter

Georgina Bloomberg, Mayor Bloomberg's daughter.

A love-crazed cyberstalker was jailed for harassing Mayor Bloomberg's daughter with emails, text messages - and even a brazen posting on the official mayoral Facebook page.

Salvatore Di Bartolo, 48, sent a series of seven bizarre missives professing his undying love for Georgina Bloomberg between May 28 and June 2, court papers indicate.

Weeks earlier, the pizzeria worker posted a creepy message on the mayor's Facebook page: "Happy passover mike. How is Giorgina doing?"

Di Bartolo was busted June 7 in a predawn sweep by two dozen police and federal agents after sending a half-dozen texts to an NYPD sergeant asking for help in reaching the mayor and his daughter to talk about their wedding plans.

"It's nutty," said the landlady at his $635-a-month apartment in Ridgewood, Queens. "He's working in a pizza shop, and he goes after the mayor's daughter?"

The text messages to the police sergeant came five days after he warned the suspected stalker "not to have any contact with complainant Bloomberg in any way, including through any third party."

The suspect was arrested at 4:40 a.m., less than an hour after his last text to the sergeant. Neighbors said Di Bartolo was led out of his apartment in jeans, a T-shirt and handcuffs.

Di Bartolo had told the officer that "he did not care" about the earlier warnings because he and the mayor's daughter "were going to be married," according to court documents.

Georgina Bloomberg, 28, told police she had never met or even heard of Di Bartolo. The award-winning equestrian is the author of a new book, "The A Circuit."

Di Bartolo, a divorced dad of two, was described by neighbors as a quiet but strange man employed by a local pizza place. On his days off, he sold plastic Jesus statues and votive candles from the stoop of his building.

Di Bartolo turned even stranger when his girlfriend passed away in 2007. "He kinda lost it when she died," said neighbor Philip Beck, 50, a Di Bartolo pal for the last dozen years.

Di Bartolo became obsessed with running for mayor against Bloomberg, even taking out a campaign ad in a local paper, Beck recalled. "I thought it was weird - he didn't have that kind of clout," said Beck. "He worked in a pizza shop. He's not going to be the mayor."

Di Bartolo's attorney did not return a call for comment yesterday.

In a handwritten court filing, Di Bartolo said he was jailed "on redicolouse charges of harasment of Georgina Bloomberg, daughter of the NY City Mayor."

Di Bartolo, charged with harassment and aggravated harassment, is on Rikers Island in lieu of $25,000 bail. He also faces charges of forging a federal judge's signature last year on a bogus court order awarding himself $10 million
