Kiryas Joel hit-and-run kills sanitation worker

KIRYAS JOEL — A Kiryas Joel sanitation department employee was struck and killed by a vehicle about noon Tuesday while he was on the job.

Kiryas Joel Public Safety Commissioner Moses Witriol said a sanitation employee was crossing the street near 6 Satmar Drive when he was hit by a vehicle that took off without stopping. EMS responded, but the worker died at the scene.

State police are investigating the death and the name of the man is being withheld until notifications to family can be made.
