Jonathan Pollard hospitalized after collapsing in jail

The Committee to Free Jonathan Pollard reported Saturday that he collapsed in prison over the weekend and had to be hospitalized.

Pollard, 58, who is serving a life sentence for espionage, has reportedly been experiencing pain for several weeks, but it is still unknown whether it was the cause for his hospitalization.

No word has been given as to his condition. His wife, Ester, has been updated on his condition. She said she was deeply concerned for her husband and asked the public to pray for his recovery.

The ailing spy, whose health has been steadily deteriorating over the past few years, has been hospitalized several times in the past and underwent surgery in prison in August 2011.

Many top US officials, including former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former CIA Chief James Woolsey, have voiced their support for Pollard's release, saying that his health – as well as "the passage of time" in events related to his case – now enable the administration to pardon him.

Israel has been campaigning for pollard's release, but so far to no avail.
