Lauren Spierer's parents': Silence of friends 'threatens to be our undoing'

Robert and Charlene Spierer have vowed to "never give up" their search for their missing daughter, Lauren, despite "deafening silence" from the people who saw her last that they said "threatens to be our undoing."

In a new letter posted Saturday to the website findlauren.com, the Spierers wrote, "There is no reason to think the people Lauren was last with, wouldn't do everything in their power to help us find her. But, alas, there is deafening silence.

"That silence compounds our frustration, our desperation and our grief in not having found Lauren. It threatens to be our undoing but make no mistake, we will never give up."

Spierer, a student at Indiana University, disappeared June 3 near her apartment in Bloomington, Ind. The 20-year-old Edgemont resident had spent the night partying with friends and vanished in the early-morning hours. Those friends have not spoken publicly about the night Spierer disappeared.

A message left with a representative for the family was not immediately returned.

"Lauren is special to us," the Spierers wrote. "As the new school year begins, we hope and pray that more information about Lauren's disappearance will be forthcoming. We remain in Bloomington for one purpose...TO FIND LAUREN."

To that end, they have produced a new poster with their daughter's photo and description as well as contact information for tipsters.

The Spierers and their supporters are asking for volunteers to help them distribute the poster throughout Bloomington and the university's campus on Aug. 28, the day before classes are scheduled to resume.

Anyone with information about Spierer's whereabouts should call the Bloomington Police Department at (812) 339-4477 or email helpfindlauren@gmail.com.
