Orthodox School Board Head Resigns After Being Charged With Mail Fraud

WHITE PLAINS – A former fire district commissioner in Rockland County was charged Friday by federal authorities for engaging in a mail fraud scheme.

Nathan Rothschild, 54, of Monsey, allegedly caused the fire district to enter into a real estate transaction with a creditor of his in order to pay off personal debts. He is charged with one count of mail fraud and faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison if convicted.

“This charge, if proven, represents a serious violation of public trust,” said Manhattan US Attorney Preet Bharara. “Public officials should not think that their office can be used as a personal piggy bank.”
