L.A: Anti-Semitic graffiti scrawled on Calabasas High School

 

Officials expressed outrage and sadness after large amounts of anti-Semitic graffiti were found around Calabasas High School.

The vandalism included swastikas and depictions of Adolf Hitler. [Updated at 8:45 a.m.: The graffiti also included attacks on blacks and Latinos.]

School maintenance workers reported finding the words and symbols when they arrived at the school, in the 22000 block of Mulholland Highway, at 9 a.m. Saturday.

"It's a particularly disgusting time to do it because it's a holy week for many religions," Calabasas Mayor James Robert Bozajian told KTLA-TV (Channel 5). "It's so non-representative of this community that I hope they apprehend the person as soon as possible."

Deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station said the graffiti included Nazi swastika flags, words and symbols related to anti-Semitism and teachers' names. The Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation as felony vandalism and a hate crime.

The school has repaired the damage, including sandblasting a section of damaged wall. The crime is believed to have occurred between 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday morning.
