Two Eilat residents, ages 25 and 15, were arrested Friday on suspicion they were involved in the rape of an American tourist who had been volunteering in a kibbutz in Hevel Eilot. She was scheduled to leave Israel soon after volunteering in Israel for three months.
O Thursday night, the tourist, 29, had caught a ride with the two men after a night out in Eilat. She had apparently boarded their car while intoxicated.
The suspects traveled to a shelter in the city and asked the woman to wait for them there while they finish some errands.
It is suspected that the 15-year-old youth later returned to the shelter and there raped the victim twice and then fled the scene. The woman then escaped and stopped a taxi whose driver called the police.
The two suspects were arrested after police managed to trace their car which was indentified as belonging to a delivery company. The teen denies the allegations.
