Simon Price, 68, claims he was denied kosher food and given no choice over what he was served.
The Orthodox Jew wants £2,500 in “exemplary damages” and legal costs over his treatment in top-security Frankland jail, near Durham.
Inmates are allowed to cook their own meals — but Price complains he was given pots and pans used by non-Jewish lags.
He moans that Muslims and vegetarian cons got better treatment — and claims there are no Jewish texts in the prison library. In a High Court writ submitted under equality laws and the Human Rights Act, Price blast an “indifferent and discriminatory attitude adopted towards Jews at HMP Frankland which consciously or subconsciously reflects institutionalised anti-Semitism”.
Last night a Prison Service spokeswoman said: “We are robustly defending all elements of the claim.”
Career criminal Price was sentenced to 28 years in 2005 for plotting from his chateau in South West France to smuggle 693kg of cocaine inside drums of molasses.
Snaresbrook Crown Court, East London, heard Price had been known to cops since he was 14.
Previous convictions included robbery, perverting justice and witness intimidation — and he served 12 years for a £1.5million Heathrow cash heist.
