Rabbinical Court Against Receiving Aid from Christians

A rabbinical court headed by Rabbi Dov Lior of Kiryat Arba' declared, on Monday, that it is forbidden to receive contributions from Christian sources because of Christianity's definition as idolatry.

The question had come up in the matter of donations by Christian groups, including Christian Friends of Israel Communities, to Zionist groups such as the ZAKA emergency service.

While the rabbis ruled that it is permitted to receive contributions and financial assistance from all the nations of the world, they said, in the sharpest terms, that it was forbidden to benefit from paganism, even for medical purposes.

They said the prohibition applies to general charitable groups under the auspices of any church.
