Woman Sexually Assaulted Near City Hall Park in Manhattan

NEW YORK  — A sexual assault was reported in the Financial District early Sunday.

The victim, a 28-year-old woman, told police she was attacked on Park Row, near Beekman Street, shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday by a man wearing a red Adidas jacket, police confirmed to 1010 WINS.

The man followed the woman into Theatre Alley, where he threw her to the ground and tried to rape her, police said.

The scene was just blocks from One Police Plaza, the Metropolitan Correctional Center and the Daniel Patrick Moynihan United States Courthouse.

The assault was scared off when the woman screamed and construction workers came to her aid, police said.

“I am a little concerned. I never heard of it in four years, so yeah. But beyond these streets, it’s a little bit more, I would say, probably scarier beyond the courthouse streets. But I would be concerned. I would look around a little bit more when I’m walking, maybe,” she said.

The victim was reportedly hospitalized for neck injuries. She was reported in stable condition Sunday night, police said.

Police have released a surveillance photo of a man wanted for questioning in connection with the attack. He is seen passing through a subway turnstile.
