'Suspicious package' found at Israeli bank in New York is safe

The FDNY and NYPD responded to a report of a suspicious package at 1177 Sixth Avenue in Manhattan. The package was reported to be inside an Israeli-owned bank













NYC - A suspicious package found at an Israeli bank in New York is not a letter bomb as first feared police said.

The package sent to Bank Hapolim apparently had no return address and the name of the bank officer to whom it was sent was spelled incorrectly raising concern among bank employees.

The 6-by-3 inch envelope contained a wire and a battery but authorities said it could be an electronic or musical greeting card.

New York City Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said the bomb squad were at the midtown Manhattan bank but say no injuries were reported.

The package had been x-rayed by the bomb squad who were called to the midtown Manhattan branch at 9.55 EST this morning.

Five floors of the building were evacuated. It is not clear whether the package was mailed to the bank or found there.
