150 cameras to watch over Leiby Kletzky's neighborhood

THE BROOKLYN neighborhood where 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky was slain last year will be blanketed in security cameras, local lawmakers announced Sunday.

The state will dole out $1 million to a Jewish nonprofit to install 150 high-tech security cameras around Borough Park and Midwood, dubbing the effort the Leiby Kletzky Security Initiative.

“We can’t bring Leiby back, but we can make sure there are no other Leibys with God’s help,” said Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Borough Park).

The 8-year-old disappeared last July after leaving a yeshiva day camp. Security camera footage helped track down his killer, Levi Aron, who confessed to police that he smothered the boy and then cut up his body.

Officials say it’s the biggest mass installation of cameras outside Manhattan. The cameras, expected to be up and running by fall, will be placed outside businesses, synagogues and schools.
