Keeping in line with his campaign rhetoric that consistently
pointed to the case as having been “botched” by the previous administration,
Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson has appointed a new prosecutor to take
a closer look at the extortion case against Samuel Kellner.
The NEW YORK DAILY NEWS reports that Thompson has tapped
Kevin O’Donnell, a prosecutor from the sex crimes division, to head up
Kellner’s case going forward.
Over the course of the past three years, Kellner has gone
from “whistleblower” on sexual abuse within Brooklyn’s Orthodox Jewish
community to defendant facing extortion and bribery charges.
Upon hearing the news, Kellner’s lawyer Niall Mac Giollabhui
said Thompson, “probably wants a fresh pair of eyes to look at this case.”
