Brooklyn, NY - A drug dealer arrested last year who was
known to stop sales during Shabbat will get up five years in prison.
The New York Post Reports that Edward Sorin, 38, of
Sheepshead Bay was sentenced Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme Court to five years
for weapons possession and three and a half years for a drug possession charge.
An observant Jewish drug dealer, Sorin was part of a drug
gang that sent text messages to customers to say they’d be closing up early in
honor of Shabbat.
The judge ordered that Sorin remain on supervised release
for five years after his release.
Sorin and four others were responsible for a drug circle
that dealt oxycodone, heroin and cocaine from Bedford Avenue Brooklyn residents
Jack Zibak, David Gerowitz and Philip Mandel were also charged.
Police seized about 900 vials of heroin, 335 oxycodone
pills, cocaine and prescription drugs Xanax, Suboxone and Klonopin after a
six-month investigation.
