NYPD Offering $22K Reward To Find Killers Of Jewish Woman In 2012

Evelyn Shapiro

NYPD is offering a reward of $22K for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perp(s) responsible for the murder of 88 year-old Evelyn Shapiro, a beloved Bronx mother who was found brutally beaten in her Pelham Bay House apartment on June 16. 2012.

PIX11.com reports that Shapiro’s body was discovered by her daughter Susan Duriak and grandson James Duriak after Susan had tried unsuccessfully to reach her mother the previous night.

Known for proudly displaying her gold necklaces and rings, police said Shapiro’s body had been stripped of all jewelry, and that her jewelry collection was missing, as well.

Grandson James said the only piece the killers missed was a gold Jewish chai—- piece his grandmother treasured and had bought on a trip to Israel—-which was found on the floor next to his dead grandmother’s body.

In pleading for the public’s help in the case, Susan said, “You see the image every time you close your eyes.

I wish she was alive for just two minutes so I could take her face in my hands and say ‘Do you know how much you meant to me? Do you know you meant the world to me?’”
