Moshe Menachem Taubenfeld
RAMAPO — The brother of a convicted sex offender from New
Square has been arrested on charges of himself molesting a young boy over a
five-year period, police said Friday.
Moshe Menachem Taubenfeld, 55, an educator like his brother
Herschel, was charged with sexually abusing a boy from the ages of 9 to 13 from
2001 to 2006, Ramapo police said.
Moshe Taubenfeld, also known as Mendel Zarkowsky, was
charged with a felony count of course of sexual conduct against a child, which
means he abused the young man multiple times.
Moshe Taubenfeld is accused of fondling the boy and
penetrating his anal area with his finger. There was no sodomy or oral sex,
police said.
Detective Lt. Mark Emma said the boy reported the abuse with
his parents in July. He said Taubenfeld was a teacher who helped out young men
in the community.
“The guy was hard to track down because he had two different
names,” Emma said.
Moshe Taubenfeld, who has 20 children, was released on
$25,000 cash bail pending a so-far unscheduled appearance in New Square Justice
Court, Emma said.
His brother Herschel received six years probation for
sexually molesting a young man named Yossi. Herschel Taubenfeld pleaded guilty
a misdemeanor charge.
