A four-year-old girl drowned in a mikveh in Bnei Barak
Saturday, on what was otherwise a relatively quiet Yom Kippur in terms of
medical emergencies.
The girl and her siblings were playing by themselves, found
the mikveh doors open, and went inside, Channel 2 news reported. The girl
drowned in the mikveh waters, and a Magen David Adom team was unable to revive
her.
Around the country, 1,973 Israelis required hospitalization
in the course of Yom Kippur, a relatively low number compared to previous
years, especially given this year’s extremely high temperatures. Another 207
bicycle riders required first aid, MDA figures indicated.
