Jerusalem - A professional Jewish scribe will present Britain's Price William and his wife-to-be Kate Middleton with a specially-crafted scroll for their wedding, the Jerusalem Post daily reported Monday.
An illustrated hand-written scroll - called the ketubah in Hebrew - is a feature of Jewish weddings, instituted as protection for the wife. It outlines the rights and responsibilities of the groom toward the bride, is signed by two witnesses, and is traditionally read out aloud under the bridal canopy during the wedding ceremony.
Mike Horton, a British-born Jerusalem resident, will present the scroll to British Ambassador to Israel Matthew Gould on Thursday.
Horton said his scroll, written in Hebrew and in English, will not contain what he called 'Jewish religious stuff' and instead the text will be based on egalitarian principles.
'As beloveds and friends, we promise to love, honor, cherish and support each other,' the scroll reads. May we be ever open and honest.'
Horton said he did not expect to receive an invitation to the wedding and even if he did, he would not attend.
'They're not my crowd of people,' he said, and added that the wedding was set for a Friday morning, when he would have to get ready for the Jewish Sabbath, which begins at sundown.
