The moment quick-thinking police officers stopped suicidal man from jumping off 140ft

Quick: The officer is seen sprinting after the man as he gets closer to the edge of the bridge

Quick-thinking officers were caught on camera saving a suicidal man about to leap from a 140ft bridge.

Dramatic dash-cam footage shows the moment the pair sprinted up to the man and restrained him - moments before he was about to jump into the Columbia River from off the Bridge of Gods.

They kicked into action after Portland police were warned that a suicidal man was heading there to jump.

Spotting his car as it headed towards the Washington side of the river, they managed to pull him back in the nick of time.

Skamania Count Sheriff's Office Deputy Rick Princehouse told KGW that the 'suicidal man' 'seemed like a very nice gentleman'.

He added: 'He has some issues he's been dealing with. After we took him into custody, he was polite and apologetic and embarrassed by his actions.'

Princehouse was joined by Sgt Jay Johnston on the rescue. Both were praised for their quick actions.
