Lakewood, NJ - Yeshiva Boy Accidentally Hit In Head With Bat While Playing Baseball

LAKEWOOD — A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured today after being hit in the head by a bat while playing baseball outside a local school, police said.

The boy, who wasn’t identified, was rushed by Hatzolah First Aid Squad to the trauma center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. The incident happened just before 4 p.m. on the playground at Yeshiva Kol Torah on Oak Street, according to Sgt. Steve Vigna of the Police Department.

“He suffered head injuries and was in and out of consciousness,” Vigna said.

“Apparently some kids were playing baseball and one of the other juveniles swung the bat and it came out of his hands and hit the boy in the head,” Vigna said.

He said the incident “was accidental.”

The child’s parents were notified and detectives interviewed other children who were on the playground when the boy was hit by the bat, he said.

He said the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office was notified and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigations Unit responded to the playground.
