A man identified as a "person of interest'' in the murder of a Chelsea floral designer is in custody and being questioned by cops, law-enforcement sources told The Post today.
Surveillance footage from an elevator in the building of victim John Laubach, 57, showed him being accompanied by two men before his death Friday night, the sources said. One of the men seen in the video is believed to be the man in custody.
Police are still hunting for the other man, as well as Laubach’s laptop, which was missing from his West 22nd Street apartment. The pad was ransacked and surveillance photos taken at a nearby Chase bank show someone trying to use Laubach’s ATM card, one source said.
Laubach frequently brought younger men home with him, sources said. There were no signs of forced entry into his apartment, a police source said.
Laubach -- a well-liked eccentric who often carried his white Cockatoo “Bolo” on his shoulder -- was found by a female friend about 8 p.m. Friday with his hands bound together with duct tape and tethered to a bedpost with an electrical cord, sources said.
He was gagged with duct tape and wore only a white undershirt.
His body had no visible signs of trauma, and the city Medical Examiner’s Office said determining the cause of death could take up to 10 days.
Pals of Laubach said he frequently hooked up with men in their early 20s, even going so far as to buy them food and clothes.
