CBS 2 News anchor Rob Morrison violently choked his wife during at fight at their suburban Connecticut home early Sunday and then threatened her after he was arrested, police said Monday.
Darien cops said they responded to Morrison's Hollow Tree Ridge Road home about 1:30 a.m. Sunday after they received a call from his wife's mother reporting a domestic incident there.
"Upon arrival, it was ascertained that Morrison had been becoming increasingly belligerent toward his wife during the course of the evening, culminating in his choking her by the neck with both hands," a police press release said.
"Officers did observe red marks on the victim's neck consistent with this allegation."
Morrison, 44, a handsome ex-Marine, anchors CBS 2 News This Morning and At Noon with Mary Calvi. He previously spent 10 years at NBC 4. His striking blond wife, Ashley Morrison, is an anchor for CBS MoneyWatch.
The accused wife-choker, "while being processed, made verbal threats to do his wife additional harm, which were overheard by arresting officers," police said. Ashley Morrison didn’t request medical attention, cops said.
A mug shot posted online by the Darien Times newspaper shows Rob Morrison smirking in a hooded sweatshirt with blood on his nose and a bruised lip.
The Massachusetts native was charged with strangulation in the second degree, threatening in the second degree and disorderly conduct, police said Monday.
Morrison, a former foreign correspondent who reported from Iraq, Afghanistan, Haiti and other international hotspots while at Ch. 4, posted a $100,000 bond but has a court date Tuesday at Stamford Superior Court, police said.
“Because this is a personal matter, WCBS is declining to comment,” a spokeswoman for the station said Monday.
