5 Arrested In Jerusalem For Pedophilia

The men, all in their 40s and 50s, knew each other through the neighborhood but were not acting in an organized fashion

Police arrested five men in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Nahlaot over the past six weeks for sexually abusing dozens of minors in the neighborhood starting as early as 2006, though the abuse got significantly worse in the past two years.

The men, all in their 40s and 50s, knew each other through the neighborhood but were not acting in an organized fashion to abuse the children.

One of the men arrested recently was also arrested in February for similar sexual abuse of minors. Police requested he be imprisoned, but he was released to house arrest with an electronic bracelet to track his whereabouts.

Jerusalem police spokesman Shmuel Ben Ruby said that the man continued abusing children while on house arrest.

The two men already served with indictments both used candy to lure children from the neighborhood into their apartments, where they would sexually abuse and sodomize them. One suspect told the children that if he told anyone what had happened, the suspect would burn down his house and kill him. In a limited number of incidents, more than one of the suspects was involved in an incident of abuse.

Four of the men are from the haredi portion of the neighborhood. Ben Ruby said that due to the closed nature of the community, the police often have a difficult time identifying and arresting suspects.

“We hope that if there are [sexual assaults] that people will file complaints, but we also use intelligence to try to figure out what is going on,” he said on Wednesday.

The fifth man is a well-known pillar of the community who had built a whimsical community garden in the courtyard, said neighbors.

After hearing of the arrests, the neighbors destroyed the garden in anger.

On Wednesday, all that was left was a pile of stones and a homemade sign that said in English “No [suspect name], no scared children.”

“When I heard about what had happened and told my wife, I couldn’t fall asleep all night,” said Yitzhak, who was sitting in the courtyard on Wednesday and studies at a nearby Kollel.

“I knew one of the victims, he had serious behavioral problems, he was always banging his head against the wall, slamming it so hard that he was breaking the walls of his family’s apartment,” he said. “To think that someone is responsible for this... it just disgusts me.”

  2. The Sovereign State of Israel is more than sixty years young. Until pedophiles and sex offenders are shown no mercy by the Court - until the Penal Code is rewritten so that pedophiles convicted of their crime must go directly to jail and appeal from a jail cell, and until the police who accept bribes to not indict also go to jail- these types of crimes will continue. Whether Haredi or Dati or Secular - a pedophile is a pedophile is a pedophile. There is one solution if you love children. Put the pedophiles in jail and throw away the key. Furthermore, those who use their professional expertise to lure, trap and perform their Holocaust on a child or young teen should be banned from the use of the tools of their profession for seven years, no exceptions. Period.

  3. Also, when the attorney who defends the pedophile accepts cash payment without issuing a receipt, the Court should demand that he or she recuse themselves from the case. And a Court appointed attorney should continue. Allowing an attorney to accept a fee and not issue a receipt permits the balance of Justice to be controverted to perform Evil against the victim. Those arrested who burden the Court with requests for gag orders should be published repeatedly when they are convicted. Protect children not pedophiles.

  4. Public beware, there are many pedophiles that are married with children or divorced with children. This is part of their disguise. Many are the "good guy at the office", very quiet and the ideal neighbor. They will do just about anything to avoid drawing attention to themselves.

  5. I am personally aware of a convicted sex offender in Israel walking around free who as a teenager, repeatedly taught his younger sister "self defence". Little did she know that he was coming to an orgasm while her little foot was kicking him in the groin. The fact that a child is too young to be aware of the sexual nature of a motion, makes the crime more sinister - not less sinister. This particular person still blamed the press for "ruining his life". The pedophile is not entitled to the Right to Privacy.

  6. Agree that the attached photo is COMPLETELY inappropriate and also not even the subject at all. Any girls perpertrated upon in these instances were wearing long skirts, give me a break. And it was mostly boys anyway. This is an article copied directly from the Jerusalem Post. Why is there no credit given?
