Furious mother confronts teacher, 41, who is living with her daughter, 18

The mother of an 18-year-old girl who moved in with her high school teacher, 41, angrily confronted her daughter's older lover as a man with 'no moral compass.

'I think you're self-serving. I think you're selfish,' Tammie Powers told James Hooker on the Dr. Phil show Tuesday. 'I think you're ruining my child with this.

Ms Powers made her first ever public appearance alongside her daughter Jordan and her new boyfriend, who left his wife and three children so he could pursue a relationship with his former student.

Jordan Powers and Mr Hooker caused a national uproar when they announced that they were living together in Modesto, California, as a couple, despite having met when Miss Powers was a student in Mr Hooker's high school business class.

They say their never had a relationship until Miss Powers turned 18.

However, Phil McGraw (aka Dr Phil) confronted the pair over phone records that show 22 text messages, one video message and a call that took place -- all before she turned 18 in September.

Miss Powers said they were all strictly school related, a response Dr Phil scoffed at.

I've raised two kids and I've never had this kind of contact going on between a teacher and student,' he told the high school student.

Jordan's mother has waged an aggressive public campaign against Mr Hooker, claiming he is exploiting and corrupting her daughter.

He shouldn't be with students,' she said.

I'd like to see him arrested. I'd like to get information from when she was a minor and have him arrested.

Police are currently investigating whether Mr Hooker broke the law by engaging in a physical relationship with Miss Powers when she was still 17.

But Miss Powers came to the aid of her lover. 'It's It's fifty-fifty,' she said of the relationship.

Fifty-Fifty? Darling, you're a child,' her mother shot back, incredulous.

I bought Lunchables for you two weeks ago! You're a kid.

Mr Hooker told Dr Phil he felt disrespected by his girlfriend's mother and that her public criticism was affecting her daughter.

You're sounding pretty sanctimonious and self-righteous in saying, "Look how much you've hurt your own daughter,"' Dr Phil told Mr Hooker.
