NY: Police searching for Tashia Evans, who escaped police custody at Harlem Hospital Center

The NYPD is asking for the public's help in finding a grand larceny suspect who escaped from their custody at Harlem Hospital Center.

Police on Tuesday morning released a photo of Tashia Evans, who was arrested in a bad check scheme Monday and taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pains, police said.

While at the hospital, Evans, 28, managed to get away, sparking a search of the building and the neighborhood, police said.

Police described Evans as 5 feet 2 inches tall and 160 pounds. They said she was last seen wearing a black parka jacket and gray pants.

The NYPD usually takes disciplinary action against officers from whose custody prisoners escape. The escape was still under investigation early Tuesday, and it appeared that no disciplinary action had yet been taken.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS or text police at 274637, then enter TIP577.
