NEW YORK — The “Amazing Spider-Man” is visiting New York.
The sequel to the blockbuster Hollywood movie has already started filming around the area, but upcoming plans to swing through Brooklyn have come under fire, CBS 2′s Dick Brennan reported Thursday night.
Spidey may be coming to Williamsburg, but don’t expect a superhero’s welcome.
The makers of the new film want to shoot at a local armory during Passover and that’s not going over well.
“There’s no reason they couldn’t have avoided this conflict and it’s very disrespectful,” said community leader David Needelman.
In response, Community Board 1 fired off a letter to the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, saying “We ask that you not issue a permit for any of the High Holy Days.”
“The issue is you’ll be driving trucks and trailers during the most heaviest week of the year, which is preparation from the Passover holiday,” said Rabbi David Niederman, of the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg.
The Spidey sequel is not the first film to be made at the armory and some people who live nearby said the movie makers are really not that disruptive. “It’s gonna be inside the armory, so it’s really not gonna be affecting anybody,” said Jorge Artavia of Williamsburg.
The city said so far, no permits have been issued.
CBS 2 asked Columbia Pictures about possibly rescheduling, but they would only respond that the production is “continuing to work with the community and the Mayor’s office…to minimize any impact on the community, and we’re doing our best to be good neighbors.”
But that hasn’t satisfy everyone.
“The one who does the dates should have known better and from now on, he would know better,” Niederman said.
There was no word on when a decision will be made on the permits.
The movie makers also want to come back to Williamsburg in May and June to do more shooting.
