Police opened fire on a man who struck an officer with his car after they pulled him over on Staten Island Saturday afternoon, law enforcement sources said.
Officers were approaching the man's car in Castleton at around 1:30 p.m., when he attempted to drive off, hitting one of the officers with his vehicle. Police then opened fire on the car striking the man in the stomach, sources said.
The man managed to drive several blocks before crashing into a pole and flipping over. He then tried to flee on foot, but was soon apprehended by police, sources said. A gun was recovered from the man's car.
The man was taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where he is listed in serious but stable condition, sources said. The officer who was hit by the car was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
