David Pichosky and Rochelle Wise, Killings: Cause Of Death Asphyxiation, Police Say

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - A Canadian couple killed in their winter home in Florida died by asphyxiation and it's believed multiple people are responsible, police said Wednesday.

The bodies of Toronto couple Rochelle Wise, 66, and David Pichosky, 71, were discovered in their Hallandale Beach, Fla., home on Jan. 10. Police still have no motive for the deaths, which they've classified as homicides.

"As the details come out I believe the public will be shocked just to know how senseless this murder was," said Police Chief Dwayne Flournoy.

"It's a sad, sad situation that this couple (who) found themselves together later in life had to die this way."

Wise and Pichosky were married about four years ago and were beginning to take advantage of their retirement, said Wise's son Jamie.

"She'd worked hard her whole life and finally found love and was just starting to taste some of the benefits of hard work," he said.

"She'll be missed on a level you can't imagine by people she knew, by her family, by her friends, by her community. It's unimaginable."

Wise, a popular former day camp director and educator, and Pichosky were at the local Jewish temple on Jan. 8 then went to a Wal-Mart and returned home, police said.

The last activity investigators have been able to trace is a video chat they had with a family member at about 8 a.m. on Jan. 9.

Police released video last month from a neighbour's surveillance camera hoping to identify a woman seen walking to the rear of the couple's home that day carrying an unidentified object then leaving without it. Flournoy said not many tips have come in about her yet.

The medical examiner has concluded the deaths are homicide by asphyxiation, although police won't say whether it was by hand or a ligature.

Crime Stoppers USA is offering a $51,000 reward in the case.
