FBI: Marcos Alonso Zea arrested for allegedly trying to join al-Qaida in Yemen

WOODBURY - Officials say they have arrested a man on Long Island this morning for allegedly trying to join al-Qaida.

Federal authorities tell us Marcos Alonso Zea, also known as "Ali Zea,” of Brentwood, wanted to join the terror group in Yemen.

The FBI says the 25-year-old conspired with others to travel overseas to wage violent Jihad on the perceived enemies of Islam, which included the Yemen government.

The arrest is the second made in the terror investigation that resulted in charges against 18-year-old former Babylon High School student Justin Kaliebe.

Back in February, Kaliebe admitted he was an aspiring terrorist who helped provide materials to al-Qaida and also plotted to kill Americans in Yemen.

Zea will be arraigned in Central Islip today.
