A Jewish comic from the UK is facing a legal battle after
his application to trademark his Rampant Rabbi vibrator rubbed a nationwide
chain of adult stores the wrong way.
The Ann Summers chain is arguing that Shed Simove’s moniker
for his rabbi-shaped sex toy bears too much resemblance to its Rampant Rabbit
line of vibrators, and the two could be too easily confused, the New York DailyNews reported.
Ann Summers registered its opposition with the British
Intellectual Property Office on October 7, according to a copy of the notice of
opposition Shed posted on his website. However, Simove said he is hopeful for a
mutually beneficial compromise and possibly even a partnership.
“The dream outcome would be that the talented team at Ann
Summers now see how well my Rampant Rabbi has turned out and ask to stock it in
their stores next to their ‘Rampant Rabbits’ – that’d be amazing,” he said in
the post.
“Rampant Rabbi” comes with the tagline “Oh God! Oh God! Oh
God!” and claims to offer “the modern Jewish woman a religious experience,”
according to the report.
Simove was a bit evasive when asked if the product could
offend Jews.
“I am Jewish and a fan of laughing at one’s culture,” he
told New York Daily News.
In other interesting career moves, the Oxford-educated
Simove changed his name to God, wrote a 200-page book called “What Every Man
Thinks About Apart From Sex” whose pages were all blank, and created the Control-A-Woman
remote control novelty item.
