A group of Hasidic men who pummeled an openly gay black man
on the streets of Williamsburg were wearing security-type uniforms and spewing
anti-gay slurs, the NYPD said Tuesday.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said cops were probing a
possible bias crime after the thugs attacked Taj Patterson, 22, and broke his
eye socket as the victim walked home along Flushing Avenue after a night of
partying on Dec. 1.
Kelly said the attackers had “some sort of uniform jackets
with a logo on it.”
Multiple witnesses, including a B57 bus driver who pulled
over and tried to intervene, described the suspects to police.
Cops said it wasn’t clear if the neighborhood watch Shomrim
was involved. The organization did not return a call for comment Tuesday night.
