Police officials say they conducted a middle-of-the-night terror drill at a closed New York City shopping mall in response to the deadly attack earlier this year in Kenya.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told reporters Tuesday that the exercise tested the NYPD’s ability to thwart a rampaging gunman.
Kelly’s remarks came following a briefing for corporate security officials at police headquarters.
An NYPD commander who studied the Nairobi mall attack told the audience that the police response there was plagued by delays and poor coordination.
The attack in September left more than 60 people dead.
