The unnamed woman who was raped in Dubai in March has been
reportedly sentenced to 16 months imprisonment on charges of 'having sex
outside of marriage'.
According to the New York Daily News, the 25-year-old was in
the U.A.E. on business when she was violently sexually assaulted. When she
reported the incident, she was the one to be arrested.
The woman was then kept in a jail cell for several days and
was banned using a phone.
The report said that the Norwegian Consulate eventually
negotiated her release and she was placed under the protection of the local
Norwegian Sailor's Church.
The woman said that she has received the harshest sentence
for sex outside marriage, harshest sentence for drinking alcohol and on top of
that she was found guilty of perjury, the report added.
