Kiryas Joel, NY - Law enforcement Meet with Hasidic Jewish Leaders

Kiryas Joel, NY - Relations between law enforcement and the religious Jewish community have never been better and with that spirit of cooperation, police top brass from across the region met with Hasidic leaders in the Village of Kiryas Joel on Monday.

As that cooperation improves every summer, the number of incidents that arise decreases dramatically with no issues at all last summer, said Sullivan County Undersheriff Eric Chaboty.

Rabbi Bernard Freilich, the retired state liaison to the Jewish community, noted the prayer of public is for all police officers to return safely to their families each night.

Law enforcement officials and emergency responders from a wide area including the counties of Sullivan, Orange, Rockland, Greene, and Ulster in New York, as well as Bergen County, NJ attended along with a number of State Police officials and representatives of Hatzolah, the Jewish ambulance service, which has representatives present from Orange, Rockland and Westchester counties as well as from New Jersey and Canada.

Chaboty made a point of noting while New York City has sidewalks, Sullivan County and other upstate areas do not, so he advised summer guests to wear reflectors on their closing to make them more visible to motorists.

Kiryas Joel Director of Public Safety Moses Witriol coordinated the conference, which received nothing but praise from all who attended.
