A disturbed man was shot by cops after he allegedly took a
swing at an officer with his cane, police said.
The incident unfolded Saturday morning in Brooklyn when two
transit cops in the subway station at Lewis Avenue and Broadway in
Bedford-Stuyvesant heard banging up on the street, police said.
The officers left the subway station to find the deranged
man allegedly smashing their patrol car with a cane.
When they told him to stop, he swung and hit one of the
officers in the face, police claim.
That’s when the other cop opened fire. The man escaped
critical injury, police said.
“The guy fell down right on the floor.
We thought he was dead,” Luis Acevedo, 51, said.
The man was taken to KingsCountyHospital while the two
officers were treated for facial injuries and tinnitus.
