In the next episode of the TV show “American Greed”, the show will profile Solomon Dwek, who was a real estate mogul, philanthropist and a big shot in close-knit Syrian Jewish community in Deal, New Jersey.
He was the son of a rabbi. But Dwek had no intention of following the footsteps of his father.
Instead, he took advantage of his own people and was the mastermind behind a plan to invest U.S. $400 million in his real estate empire which collapsed and behind a $50 million bank fraud. Dwek’s real estate empire grew and his luck began to run out.
The government realized his schemes and to avoid a prison sentence Dwek agreed to become an informant in the biggest case of corruption and greed in the history of New Jersey.
Many of those arrested by Dwek’s informing pleaded guilty to avoid lengthy prison sentences.
