Brooklyn - Six people shot in drive-by shooting in Brownsville

Brooklyn - Police say six people were shot, including a 2-year-old child and a 13-year-old boy in a drive-by shooting in Brooklyn Sunday evening.

The shooting happened around 7:00 p.m. at Rockaway Avenue and Riverdale Avenue in the Brownsville section.

EMS arrived to the scene to take the 2-year-old girl, who suffered a gunshot wound to her leg, a 25-year-old man, and 27-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy, who was shot in the hand, to Brookdale Hospital.

Two other victims, one of them a 17-year-old boy, were taken by EMS to Kings County Hospital who was all shot to the lower extremities.

Police say none of the injuries are considered life threatening and no arrests have been made.

Dozens of detectives are at the scene trying to figure out what happened and identify the shooter.

Teresa Ferguson, a witness at the scene, said the little girl was with her dad when suddenly both of them were shot.

Police say the suspect sped off in a White Nissan Altima.

Authorities have not said who the target was in this shooting. Neighbors say they are tired of the shooting violence plaguing New York City streets.

Last week, six people were shot, one of them a 4-year-old Bronx boy who died.

So far this year, according to the NYPD, 957 people have been victims of shootings in the city -- an increase of 7 percent in the same period in 2011.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
