Frankfurt - Iranian diplomat molested girl

German paper says Iranian diplomat arrested after alledgedly sexually harassing 10-year-old girl at Frankfurt playground. Iran's Foreign Ministry: This is a plot fabricated by anti-Iran opposition group and Zionist-affiliated Bild newspaper

Iran's deputy head of the general consulate in Frankfurt was arrested last week on suspicion that he sexually harassed a 10-year-old girl of Senegalese descent.

The Iranians quickly disputed the allegations, saying that the German police mistakenly arrested him.

The incident occurred last month in a Frankfurt playground. According to German newspaper Bild, the 45-year-old diplomat caressed the girl's back side and tried to kiss her. However, another report claimed that he stroked her hair.

The diplomat was arrested after the girl's mother filed a complaint with the police.

Iranian news agency Fars published a response by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, stating that it was an "anti-Iranian plot fabricated by opposition group Mojahedin-e Khalq and the Zionist-affiliated Bild newspaper."

The report quoted Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates' Affairs Hassan Qashqavi as saying that the diplomat was in fact attacked by the African woman while he was returning home from work.

"Instead of confronting the assailant individual, the German police unfortunately displayed a violent behavior toward our country's diplomat…," Qashwavi said.

The new agency reported that the Foreign Ministry had summoned German Ambassador to Tehran Bernd Erbel in order to demand clarifications and protest the German police's behavior toward the diplomat.

In May, an Iranian diplomat serving in Brasilia was accused of molesting several girls at a swimming pool in Brazil.

The diplomat, Hekmatollah Ghorbani, was recalled to Tehran after invoking diplomatic immunity.

Brazilian authorities later announced that they had dismissed Ghorbani from his post.
