Disgraced state assemblyman Vito Lopez wins re-election despite sex scandal

Pervy pol Vito Lopez appeared headed to a resounding victory Tuesday night despite his brewing sex scandal.

The state assemblyman, a Democrat, was trouncing his little-known Republican opponent Richy Garcia by a margin of 89% to 11%, according to early results.

In a statement, he thanked voters for their “overwhelming support” but said he was evaluating whether to seek re-election two years from now.

The scandal-scarred pol saw his political kingdom shatter in August after he was accused of harassing, groping and kissing female staffers. He was stripped of his committee chairmanship and resigned as Brooklyn Democratic boss, but he has stubbornly held on to his seat.

The former political powerbroker faced token opposition from Garcia, a 26-year-old college dropout who ran at the urging of his mother-in-law.

Lopez spent much of the day hanging out at his clubhouse headquarters in Bushwick, Brooklyn, according to a close ally.

Dems outnumber Republicans by a whopping 14 to 1 in the largely Hispanic 53rd District.

“Vito deserves to win,” constituent Miguel Martinez, 55, said. “He has done a lot of good for the community.”
