Sage Stallone son of Sylvester Stallone found dead

Sylvester Stallone's 36-year-old son, Sage Moonblood Stallone, may have been dead for days before his body was found in his Los Angeles home Friday, according to reports.

The website TMZ.com reported the cause was an apparent overdose on pills.

Officials did not find a suicide note or observe signs of foul play or trauma at Sage Stallone's Los Angeles home, where he was found dead Friday. Sage's death "is still under investigation," an LAPD spokeswoman told the Daily News on Saturday.

Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said authorities recovered prescription bottles in the investigation, but could not say what type or how many, or whether they played a part in Sage's death. Though an autopsy will be performed in the next few days, the coroner said a cause of death is expected to take several weeks pending the results of toxicology tests.

"I think it was probably some sort of accident," said George Braunstein, Sage's longtime lawyer, told the Associated Press.

Braunstein added that Sage's body was found by a housekeeper, after friends became concerned they had not heard from him in the past day.

TMZ.com reports Sage may have been dead for three days to a week before his body was discovered, quoting law enforcement sources as saying he "lived like Howard Hughes," and spent days in his room surrounded by cigarette butts, food and soda and beer cans.

Cops found the body about 2:15 p.m. after a worried caller reported Sage could not be reached, police said. There were no signs of forced entry and no foul play was immediately suspected.

Sylvester Stallone — who had been at San Diego Comic-Con promoting his upcoming film, “Expendables 2” — “is devastated and grief-stricken,” according to his rep, Michelle Bega.

It was unclear late Friday whether the "Rocky" star remained at the convention or had returned to Los Angeles.

“Sage was a very talented and wonderful young man. His loss will be felt forever,” Bega said.

Sage’s mother, Sasha Czack, was also grieving over the loss of her son.

The younger Stallone has a handful of movie credits — most recently Vincent Gallo’s 2010 flick “Promises Written in Water.” More recently, he co-founded Grindhouse Releasing, a company that restores exploitation films.

He debuted playing the son of his father’s Rocky Balboa in his father’s 1990 film, “Rocky V.”

“He was just a wonderful, wonderful person,” Braunstein told the Daily News. “It’s a terrible tragedy.”

Braunstein told the News he spoke to Sage just a couple of days ago. “He was up and happy” and “talking about getting married,” Braunstein said.

"A really great guy has lost his son today," Whoopi Goldberg tweeted. "Sending much love to Sylvester Stallone and the family.

"I'll always remember you and I running Philly in 1990," tweeted Kevin Connolly, the actor best known for his role as Eric Murphy on the HBO series "Entourage." "Rest in peace brother."

On Saturday, hip-hop pioneer Russell Simmons tweeted, "Still sad for Sylvester Stallone."
