Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the spiritual leader of the Shas
movement, was hospitalized Sunday in Jerusalem. Rabbi Yosef was taken to
Hadassah Ein Karem hospital after suffering strong pains in his leg.
His relatives said that he has suffered increasingly strong
leg pains ever since tripping and falling in his home several weeks ago.
Over the Sabbath, the pain became unbearable, but the
elderly rabbi refused to be taken to hospital on the holy day, his family said.
Due to his suffering, his son Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef taught
his weekly Saturday night Torah class in his place.
On Sunday morning Rabbi Yosef underwent a series of medical
tests. He remains in the hospital, where doctors are considering operating on
his leg.
