Paramedics were called to the home of Bank of Israel
Governor Stanley Fischer on Tuesday evening after he fell ill.
He is conscious and in stable condition and has been
hospitalized with weakness at the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer.
At around 10 pm, Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah medics
were called to Fischer's house in Herzliya where he was given medical care. MDA
refused to comment on Fischer's condition.
Fischer, a world renowned economist, is stepping down as
Bank of Israel governor and will be replaced by former BOI governor Jacob
Frenkel.
Earlier on Tuesday, Fischer held a press conference ahead of
the end of his term next week. His deputy, Dr. Karnit Flug, will replace him
for several weeks until Frenkel takes office.
